I drove along the coast today, ending up in Malibu Lagoon State Beach, where Paradise Cove is located. This is where Beach Blanket Bingo and many other surfing movies were made.
I’ve always been a beach person, and I think part of the reason was watching the old surfing movies when I was a kid. What could be better than a day at the beach? You go surfing, meet pretty girls, and at night you go dancing at Big Daddy’s or hang out with friends with a bonfire on the beach. You never saw Frankie and Annette stressing about jobs or not having enough money to go out. Why work when the beach is calling?
California has a different vibe, and it’s most prevalent at the beach. I saw surfers at all the beaches, and everyone was chill and having a good time. There were groups hanging out together after a day of surfing, others dancing to a DJ, and everyone that I talked to was welcoming and friendly. I even got the name of an instructor if I wanted to take a surfing lesson!
It’s good to know that California and LA haven’t changed much since my last visit, and there are still places where people are mellow and laid back. Of course, why wouldn’t you be? You’re spending the day at the beach!
