I’ve always enjoyed reading, and I remember as a young boy growing up in Arlington, Virginia, going to the local library and leaving with an armful of books, constantly dropping them and picking them up as I trudged home (yes, I needed a backpack).  Two of my early favorites were the adventures of Zip Zip the Martian, and Babar the Elephant.   Then I moved on to the Hardy Boys and almost any science fiction novel I found.  Edgar Rice Burroughs was one of my favorite authors.

I first tried writing a novel in Junior High, about the adventures of the Lifeguards at a local pool.  It was truly awful and I’m glad no trace of it remains.

In high school, a friend asked me to complete a science fiction story he had started for his psychology class.  He expected three or four pages, I gave him fifteen.  While I enjoyed using my imagination to create a unique story, my friend was a bit upset that I had given him so much to analyze.

As I entered my professional career, as a teacher and later sports administrator, I had the opportunity to write some professional articles, but it wasn’t the same as writing fiction.  When time permitted, I wrote short stories on the side and started an epic novel that I would work on at irregular intervals over the next twenty years.

Now that I’m retired, I’m finally able to pursue my writing full-time.  While science fiction and fantasy have always been my first love, I have also written mystery and romance novels.  My goal in creating a story is to introduce the reader to unique characters and situations.  I hope my readers will identify with the characters and be sympathetic to their struggles.  Would you make the same choices the protagonist did?  Why or why not?  Sometimes there are no clear-cut right or wrong choices, and I hope to stimulate thinking while providing an entertaining story.

I hope you enjoy the worlds and situations I have created.  I wish everyone the best as we navigate this world together while keeping one eye on the stars.
